Carly Fleming

Registered Psychotherapist
Owner & Director, everwell

I have been working as a counsellor in private practice and various health care settings for over 15 years.  It was because of this experience that I decided to start everwell Integrated Health Professionals.  Making the decision to get mental health support can be scary enough. I wanted to make it easier to take that first step. At everwell we prioritize warmth, empathy and connection above all else - from the first contact with us, throughout the journey of therapy.

My areas of specialization include grief and loss, parenting, coping with illness, and life-transitions.  I provide counselling to individuals and couples who are looking to make sense of difficult experiences in their life.  My work with my clients is always collaborative.  I give my clients the time and space that they need to tell their story in a meaningful way and I help them to understand themselves and their life circumstances in a way that brings about growth and positive change.

Q & A with Carly

What made you decide to choose your current profession?

" I just always knew that helping people navigate their difficult circumstances was something I was good at. I think I first had this realization when I was 12 years old. "

What do you like most about what you do?

" I find relationships compelling and engaging.  Each and every person that I work with is a new relationship.  This makes for a very fulfilling career. "

What does 'integrated health' mean to you?

" Often health is looked at one piece at a time.  This isn't helpful as our bodies and minds aren't a collection of pieces - we exist as a whole.  Integrated health services look at people as a whole being. We may pay attention to one piece of the puzzle at a time but we are always keeping the whole person in mind. "

What does 'wellness' mean to you?

" Wellness is a feeling you have when you look inside yourself and feel that everything is as it should be. Not many of us can say we have this full experience but the quest for this kind of wellness is one of the most important quests a person can go on. "

What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?

" Mental health isn't an either/or situation.  We are neither mentally well or mentally ill.  Mental health exists on a continuum and each and every person would benefit from paying attention to and nurturing their mental health, whether or not they are 'struggling' with their mental health. "

How does what you do contribute to better health?

" My psychotherapy services help people develop insight into their emotional lives, their relationships, and how they go to be the way they are.  This kind of insight can be transformative as we often move through our lives without recognition of these things.  When we have insight we have a sense of control and agency.  When we have control and agency we can actively work to make empowered choices that help improve our life circumstances. "

What do you want your clients to know about you and what it will be like working with you?

" I want clients to know that I want to join them on their journey and walk with them as they navigate it.  I want them to know that I think this is a privilege and something that I never take for granted.  I want them to know that I am never judging them. "

What do you value most in a client?

" When clients have a desire to make a change but are flexible and open to various ways to make the changes, magic happens! "

What would you like a client to say about you?

" I would like a client to say that they felt heard and validated when they talked to me.  I would like them to feel that I walked with them through their most difficult times and helped them to heal and make meaning out of what they have gone through. "

Why should a potential client come to everwell?

" Each team member at everwell is a member of YOUR team.  We are all here to help you make the changes you want to make.  You will find a space dedicated to a community of like-minded people who want to do better, be better, and feel better.  You will feel like you matter... because you do. "

I want clients to know... I am never judging them.
